Down with the imperialist invasion of Libya

The AntiWar Coalition calls for urgent protest on Wed 23.3.2011 from 12 noon to 14h00 at the cnr Adderley str and Darling str, Cape Town. The central theme is to protest against the imperialist bombing and invasion of Libya. Gaddafi has long been the agent of French, Italian and US imperialism. Imperialism has fallen out of favour with Gaddafi not because they disagree with his bloody methods but because he has proven incapable of controlling the masses. Saddam was long the agent of US imperialism until he fell out of favour with them. The invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with democracy, but everything to do with imperialism grabbing the oil. Similarly imperialism wants to install another regime that can brutalise the masses on their behalf, in the name of 'democracy' in Libya and at the same time grabbing the oil.

The French, US, UK and other imperialists are in a feeding frenzy competing with one other to be in prime position to seize the oil. We condemn the Egyptian military dictatorship for having led the way for the puppet Arab League to agree to allow the imperialists to invade Libya. We condemn the role of the SA government for having supported the UN security council resolution calling for the invasion of Libya (under the guise of establishing a no-fly zone)- the blood of the thousands of civilians who have been killed are on their hands. We condemn the Hezbollah who as part of the Lebanese government, proposed the resolution in the UN security council for the invasion of Iraq. Hezbollah are riding on the backs of the anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist sentiment of the masses to divert their revolutionary anger- in this time of crisis, the Hezbollah has shown their true colours, namely that they side with the imperialists. We condemn the Interim Transitional Council which has clearly gone over to the side of imperialism for inviting imperialism in to Libya to suppress the masses and seize the oil. We call for workers and soldiers councils to be set up to defeat Gaddafi, expropriate all imperialist assets, placing them under workers control, expelling all the armies of the US-Nato from Libya. We call for armed workers brigades to go to assist the Libyan masses against Gaddafi and imperialism. We call for general strikes and blockades against the imperialist invasion in all those countries that are directly participating in the invasion. The enemy is at home!

The Libyan regime of Gaddafi is still propped up through mercenaries from Chad and Niger showing that French and US imperialism is playing a double game of supporting both sides. Imperialism has a long history of supporting both sides in war- war itself is big business for imperialism- the supplying of weapons to both the Iranian and Iraqi regimes on their 8 year war is but one of many examples. Thus imperialism funded Gaddafi to smash the working class resistance. Now imperialism , with the blessing of most of the world’s ‘left’ and the imperialist puppet regimes, come in as ‘saviours’ of the masses, while their only concern was to hijack the revolutionary anger of the masses and impose a capitalist regime that will once again hand over the oil to them on a platter. The hypocrisy of US imperialism is shown through their bloody suppression of the masses in Yemen, Egypt (the killing of 3 oil workers) Bahrain and Saudi Arabia through their puppet regimes. This is the same policy of imperialism to suppress the masses and to maintain their control.

We call for antiwar activists to meet on Wed on the picket line to plan future sustained protests.
