Excerpt: Interview from the Commission of Condemned Workers, Family and Friends of Las Heras to Maria, mother in law of Juan José “Canco” Vera, worker of ATE-Río Gallegos recently released.

Commission: How it was achieved the freedom of the comrades?

Maria: it was achieved thanks to the mobilization and fight of all the organizations, trade unions and political parties, we got in contact with people of Buenos Aires; Mothers of Plaza de Mayo came here. Thanks to this, the judge was faster and today they are free, if not they would continue in prison. Because nobody wanted to hear about their case, and now they are free.

Commission: how did comrades live this year?
María: (…) they were treated as if they were terrorists. Whenever they were moved to any place they were treated as terrorists (…)  they were really very bad treated, even in the moving from the place where they were in jail to the Court, they were beating and insulted (…)

Commission: how do you see our appealing to set up December 12 a great worker congress for our acquittal, for the freedom of all the prisoners in Argentina and the world and drop the charges against all the workers?

María: That has to gain a lot of force. We have to see how to reach there, maybe for economic reasons we cannot go all of us. But this have to continue because if not workers will continue in jail unfairly. Because here what they want is to set a precedent to do the same then with many workers. (…)
